Welcome to On Our Turf

This podcast has been the dream of Natalie Russell, Julian Lutz, and myself for a number of months at this point. The three of us met at Pebble Beach in July 2023 for the United States Women’s Open. I personally had been waiting for the event for months and was greatly excited to get to meet a whole bunch of women in the industry as part of the all-women’s maintenance crew. The experience itself was quite draining, but I made some seriously strong friendships that made it all worth it.

Part of the purpose of this podcast is for Nat, Jules, and me to communicate to you, the listener, what it’s really like to be a woman in turf. Those of us in the turfgrass industry are fully aware of how male-dominated it is. I spend so much time being the only woman in a group of men that when I was at the gym a few days ago, I didn’t even realize I was the only woman in the room until I was nearly done with my workout.

Like I said though, that’s only a part of this podcast. The bigger picture is that we want to create an open space to talk about what we see and experience. We decided to start a podcast because we wanted a platform to really talk about the industry in a “gloves off” type of manner.  Through this podcast, you’ll hear our stories about working our way through the industry, our education, and eventually maybe we’ll spill all of the tea 😉 At this point though, we’re just grateful to be here and we are excited to tell you everything we have brainstormed that’s important for the posterity of this industry.

Happy Listening!
